When I listen to Love On The Brain, I travel back 12,000 hours and 5,000 miles to Rome in the Spring of 2017.
I go back to the café in the basement of my school, where I drank my coffee before it could cool. The walls of the dining hall that was yellow and warm, then behind the velvet curtain where the mysterious opera singer would perform.
I go back to staring at the Roman Forums with Maia while we dodged the beggars on the street who tried to steal my wallet. We hung our feet over the edge of the Colosseo, where gladiators fought to the death below.
I go back to my first real date when we ate dinner and then held hands under the moonlight. And then that night when everything felt right.
I go back to sparkling white wine, Santa Maria Maggiore; back in time.
I listen to Love On The Brain and remember not wanting to go back, wishing I could stay in that moment forever. Every time I hear that song, a painted picture forms in my mind and I know where I belong.
