Hello, my beautiful readers. It is with great pleasure that I proclaim that I, Elena Goodson, am in New York City. I know, I know. Crazy, right? What am I doing all the way on the East Coast, you don’t ask? Well. Little old me has some interviews lined up for this week.
I’m really excited because all the companies that I’m interviewing with are actually super cool and up my alley! Most are marketing positions, but a few are also communications or public relations. I’m keen on starting my career in marketing.
It’s something I sort of stumbled upon, and then my interest grew and grew and now I have the opportunity to make a career out of it. I’ve studied different practices of marketing, including growth hacker marketing, MailChimp, and email funnels. I’ve also started working for local businesses, like ACI Medical, to train them in digital marketing strategies. Not to mention, I’m also creating a website for Ellicott Utilities Company, a water and sewage company based in Colorado.
What I’m hoping to get out of this trip is an inside into the professional world of marketing. Ideally, I’d land a job with a firm where I can grow, work in a team, contribute, and use my linguistic/cultural skills.
While I’m here, I’m not just going to be doing interviews. Though that is the primary and most important reason for my trip, I will also be doing stand up comedy! I haven’t been public about it but I am a stand up comedian in San Diego. It’s really exciting to know I’m going to be up on the same stages as SNL cast members and famous comedians like Robin Williams. My first gig is tonight, and I’m booked every day of the week except Saturday.
I’ve always been fascinated by New York City, as I’m sure many of you have been. Being the main immigration point during the early years of our country, many cultures remain here to this day. The next tier down on the list of my priorities would by museums and exhibits, then coffee, then food and then any fascinating opportunity that lands in my lap.
